I've been having inner debates lately about whether or not to be part of this second league. The first was fun, a great work out, good times with X, nice little chapter of my mid 2010. But there were some aspects of it that pissed me off. But aside from those the time commitment was a lot more than expected and the seriousness too. So...I've been evaluating the pro's and the con's and I'm still not sure what the F im gonna do.

Practice today was awesome, of course. It felt great and I also batted the shit out those balls, which obviously makes it feel greater. SomethBeen a pretty fucking awesome year. But I'm gonna miss Austin and ACL. I Could do some real concerts so right now.

moonanstars has posted on the DragonCon suggesting lj comm safety Volunteers wearing bright colored shirts, Easily identifiable, Who Could congoers assist with Safety Issues, radio to police and official security, and Anyone Who Accompany Generally just felt unsafe (Particularly When traveling on the Street between the hotels).; ribbons for free to anyone who requests them.  Please see this post for the origins of the project and what it means.  I've requested ribbons.  I've also offered to help brainstorm ways to grow the project at D*C.  I am planning on writing to the con organizers with a proposal for full recognition in the official program, on the website, and in meatspace (probably a table to hand out ribbons and flyers).  But this is an open source project, which means we don't need official recognition to get the word out!  If anyone is interested in helping me with this, please let me know. Pitchfork says it best: With his first band, Finn's lyrical tics and themes were well in place already-- shady nightlife characters that introduce themselves with preposterous nicknames, unexpected collisions of different music-scene casualties, people fucking in bizarre locales and somehow waking up in even stranger ones. But it's all just a bit more threatening and sordid, the humor bleaker, the redemption more elusive. There's one world, and it has lots of messed up characters, and it pretty much spans Every City You Could Possibly play a show in, Every City with a bar big enough to set-up your drum set and stand in front of it. But There's No Doubt it's all one world (and it's still That One world Now That he's doing The Hold Steady), and you know it's One That exists sort of Right Beside your own, But You're kind of glad You Can visit in the songs and you do not really Have to Live There. It'sdirection and fumbling around trying to figure out what the fuck is next while not being totally sure you even want to know. Which is pretty much exactly the wasteland I've been living in since graduating four years ago (and even more since losing that real adult job almost six months ago).

He's also the voice of the Twin Cities, my secret ancestral hometown where everyone's Polish and lapsed Catholic just like me, and he's the voice of this weird little culture of growing up with punk shows at the all-ages clubs and 7 Seconds and Gang of Four and Agnostic Front and how you let your boyfriend dictate the bands you listened to and how even the girls will start fights, which is also just like me.

It's ironic really seem to Be That americans Realizing this till now when to Politicians like Chavez and Ortega Have for years Been Taking Advantage of the power of marketing to Promote Themselves politically. The Most Recent campaign, and Probably The Most dramatic one yet is this one:

The other day at lunch I was talking with coworkers and they were saying that the campaign is doing nothing. That people aren't dumb enough to buy that crap. I don't think so though. The more I think about it, this ad campaign is genius and this is why...
1. it has created a shock factor. Controversy works in marketing, we've always known this. It gets people talking, discussing, writing posts like this one, and writing newspaper articles (ever since this campaign was launched there has been at least one article daily talking about it)- which does nothing more but continue to promote the campaign.
2. Eduardo and Arnoldo supporters? - some brush it off, some tell you it shows how low the government can go, some say it proves Ortega's abuse of power. Never the less, SEVERAL people in nica, including myself, Know That part of this ad is Actually true. Arnold is a mega thief. If this ad Had only historical face on it, I'd likely applaud it. Eduardo ... well I've heard no I is proving Hard Evidence robber, But as far as Arnold ... let's not Even Get Into It. So what does this mean? It Makes people like me at least, bitter to think That my voting options in 2011 will likely Be a.Ortega or b.Arnoldo. And honestly, I vote for that thief of Arnold? Fuck no. THIS is the REAL example of giant douche and turd sandwich. This campaign makes me want to vote Not Even.
